The O.F.I.S. Tubular Shelf represents the architectural scale of the collection, transforming the modular logic of ventilation systems into a sophisticated tool for spatial organization. Developed through a high-profile collaboration with the legendary Rossana Orlandi, this piece takes the O.F.I.S. narrative into the realm of storage and display. The design team recognized that the same tubes used to transport air through a building possess a linear strength that makes them ideal for structural shelving, allowing for a lightweight system that can support significant physical weight.

Technically, the Tubular Shelf is a modular system that plays with the concept of transparency and negative space. The studio utilized long sections of the L-shaped tubes as both the vertical supports and the horizontal shelving planes. By maintaining the standardized dimensions of the industrial parts, the team ensured that the system could be expanded or reconfigured to fit different architectural contexts. The assembly uses the same mechanical logic found in the armchair and stool, prioritizing dismountable joints that allow the shelf to be flat-packed or recycled at the end of its life cycle.

Aesthetically, the shelf is a bold statement on the beauty of industrial standardization. When arranged in a domestic or gallery setting, the repetitive geometry of the galvanized steel creates a rhythm that echoes the hidden networks of the modern city. The studio intentionally avoided "refining" the material, opting instead to highlight its technical markings and industrial scars. This approach transforms the shelf into a functional archive of the city’s metabolism. By collaborating with Rossana Orlandi, the design team elevated this "interstitial waste" to the level of luxury design, proving that sustainability and high-end aesthetics are not mutually exclusive. The Tubular Shelf is a clear demonstration of the studio’s ability to scale up its research, turning a material exploration into a versatile and impactful architectural element.
