On Running Rock, Miami

Developed in 2023 for the ON Running flagship store in Miami, this project represents the third chapter in the studio’s ongoing collaboration with the Swiss brand. Following the textile-based rock in Zurich and the brick stratification in London, the Miami installation continues the localized reproduction of the brand's foundational myth—the 2.5-meter granite boulder from the Swiss Alps—using a materiality that speaks directly to its new urban context.

The design team conceptualized the Miami Rock as a high-contrast sculptural piece, handcrafted by the studio to challenge standard 3D printing and manufacturing processes. For this iteration, the rock's volume was materialized in steel with a bichromatic powder coating. This finish not only provides a durable, industrial aesthetic suited to Miami’s vibrant atmosphere but also frames the reproduction of the alpine boulder within a locally-oriented material statement.

In addition to the central sculpture, the studio expanded the store’s functional landscape with a specialized seating solution. Following the "Foam Follows Function" logic originally developed for ON’s Zurich headquarters, the team designed and manufactured an 18-piece modular bench. Each module is constructed using:

Stainless steel frames that provide a rigorous structural grid.

Silicone foam blocks (VOC-free), compressed within the frames to create ergonomic support.

A modular logic that allows for multiple configurations, adapting to the store's flow and social needs.

As a site-specific intervention, ON Running Rock - Miami exemplifies the studio’s ability to maintain a global narrative while executing it through local and contextual materials. By merging the symbolic weight of the alpine boulder with the industrial precision of steel and silicone, the team has created a retail environment that is both a tribute to the brand’s origins and a forward-thinking exploration of sustainable material philosophy.
