Barein 2928
Developed in 2018, Barein 2928 is a furniture collection that exemplifies the studio’s fascination with the raw, functional language of industrial logistics. Commissioned for a private residential project, the design team approached this series as an exercise in "domesticating" heavy-duty components, seeking to find a balance between the robustness of industrial infrastructure and the intimacy of a living space. The collection is named after its primary material source, reinforcing the studio’s commitment to transparency regarding the origin and history of its components.
The conceptual core of Barein 2928 lies in the recontextualization of standardized industrial profiles. The design team focused on the aesthetic potential of the perforated steel sections and heavy-duty beams typically found in warehouse racking systems and structural engineering. Instead of hiding these elements behind traditional upholstery or decorative finishes, the studio celebrated their "bastard" nature, highlighting the precision of their mass-produced geometry. The resulting pieces—ranging from shelving units to seating—act as architectural interventions within the room, creating a visual dialogue between the skeletal rigidity of the steel and the soft, organic textures of the domestic environment.
Technically, the collection is a study in modularity and structural honesty. The design team utilized a palette of galvanized steel and industrial fasteners, ensuring that every joint and connection remains visible and functional. This approach allows for a "radical transparency" where the user can intuitively understand how the object is built and how it supports its own weight. To adapt these cold, hard materials for domestic use, the studio introduced subtle refinements in the finishing and proportions, ensuring that the industrial scale was successfully translated to the human scale without losing its inherent strength.
As a significant research project into the "ready-made" logic of architecture, Barein 2928 demonstrates the studio’s ability to elevate common logistics materials to the status of high-end design. By treating the industrial catalog as a primary resource, the team proves that durability and structural efficiency can become the foundation for a new, honest luxury. This collection remains a testament to the studio’s philosophy: that the most sophisticated solutions are often found by observing and reconfiguring the most basic elements of our technical world.
