The Sound System Explorations (SSE) series is an ongoing research and production body of work that redefines the relationship between high-fidelity audio engineering and sustainable material culture. Since its inception in 2020, the studio has developed a sequential collection—from SS I to SS X—that treats each loudspeaker not merely as a technical device, but as a sculptural "totem" capable of activating architectural space through sound and presence.

The collection originated from a "pro-cycling" breakthrough: the repurposing of 48 large boards of European poplar plywood from the Materia Gris exhibition (CentroCentro, 2021). What began as a strategic use of exhibition waste has evolved into a decade-long exploration of how acoustic performance can be achieved through glue-free, mechanical assemblies, and high-quality industrial components.

The SSE lineage showcases a diverse family of characters, each with its own formal logic and technical personality:

The Origins (SS I - SS IV): El Pájaro, Milanés, La Niña, and El Hórreo established the studio’s signature language using upcycled plywood, heat-blackened screws, and recycled textile geopanels for internal insulation.

The Narrative Models (SS V - SS VI): Wall-E and Chica y Perro (also known as Adolescente y Perro) introduced more figurative and playful volumes, exploring height and dialogue between multiple units.

Site-Specific & Collaborative Totems (SS VII - SS X): The series expanded into monumental scales and brand collaborations, including the powerful FACTOTUM (SS VII) produced locally in Miami, the hybrid Infinito (SS VIII) with its 3D-printed ceramic horns for Alcova Milano, and the bespoke systems developed for Nude Project and Zara Man.

Technically, every piece in the SSE collection is built to professional standards, featuring high-end drivers (B&C, Beyma), powerful amplification (often Crown systems delivering up to 1000W RMS), and HD Bluetooth connectivity. By maintaining a strict "no-glue" policy and utilizing water-based finishes, the studio ensures that every sound system remains a circular technical asset, ready to be disassembled or upgraded in the future.

Through the SSE series, the team continues to prove that the "ghosts" of our industrial and cultural waste can be transformed into high-performance tools for listening, merging the raw honesty of reclaimed materials with the precision of contemporary sound design.
