CAP Dept. Office, A Coruña
Between 2022 and 2023, the studio developed the new headquarters for CAP, a film and photography production company in A Coruña, Spain. This project represents a significant evolution in the team’s material-conscious approach, pushing the boundaries of sustainable office design through nine months of intensive creative and craft-led work.
The intervention is defined by an almost mono-material envelope of poplar plywood, creating a warm and cohesive atmosphere. However, the project’s most experimental feature is its "breathing" furniture: a series of unique pieces designed to process and filter air, enhancing the health and comfort of the shared workspace. This functional innovation builds upon the studio's previous research into environmental quality and high-performance materiality, as seen in earlier award-winning projects like Mo de Movimiento.
A cornerstone of the CAP Dept. Office is the radical reuse of on-site resources. The design team transformed the building's original plasterboard ceiling into a sculptural bookshelf, reassembling galvanized profiles and plaster panels without the use of adhesives. Additionally, the project features "Bridget," a custom-developed CNC machine created in collaboration with Jetclay. This device—named after artist Bridget Riley—integrates 3D ceramic printing and automated drawing, allowing for the creation of unique, water-based ink artworks and architectural textures directly within the space.
Composed of five one-off pieces and a meticulously crafted interior, this project, categorized under "projects," serves as a manifesto for the circular economy and "pro-cycling." By balancing high-tech digital fabrication with traditional local labor and reclaimed materials, the studio has created a workplace that is not only a functional production hub but also a living example of contemporary sustainable architecture.
