PULP
In 2025, our studio reached a significant milestone in material research with the development of PULP (Polystyrene Upgraded Life Product). Integrated into the Shell of the Ghost collection, this project was brought to life in Madrid by our team in collaboration with ex-Debris. We conceptualized PULP as a contemporary reinterpretation of the Farolillos Granadinos, a traditional Mediterranean craft, using design to bridge the gap between forgotten heritage and modern waste challenges.
At Lucas Muñoz Muñoz, we prioritize hyper-locality and environmental responsibility. For this project, we implemented a rigorous "urban extraction" process, collecting polystyrene waste within a mere 1-km radius of our studio in the Tetuán neighborhood. This proximity allowed us to ensure full traceability and establish a direct dialogue between the urban context and our creative practice. By doing so, we transform a ubiquitous material—often ignored due to its short lifespan and lack of identity—into meaningful objects with a long-lasting presence.
Our team advocates for a "pro-cycling" approach rather than simple recycling. We see discarded transport materials not as refuse, but as a valuable "urban mine". PULP is the culmination of a decade of experimentation, building on the foundations of our previous works like the Napalm Boat (2015) and Tizio Out of the Box (2021). Through this project, we continue to explore how artisanal dynamics and local labor can re-dignify industrial remnants. By archiving the original forms of the matter alongside the time and location of their transformation, we create a transparent narrative of sustainability that reimagines our relationship with global resources.
